An organization called the "Five Towns Torah
Conference" comes to DRS this weekend. The
retreat brings together over 120 serious minded
high school boys from Yeshiva High Schools throughout
the metropolitan areaand Baltimore, for a shabbos of
learning and ruach. The community is invited to join
the
Shabbaton for all minyanim, and for a spirited Tisch at
the Yeshiva Friday night at approximately 9:15pm.
I would like to invite all men to a special
edition of my Tuesday night gemara class on the
topic of "Bedika, Bittul, and Biur Chametz". The shiur
will
take place Tuesday night March 23rd, at 9:00pm.
We are pleased to invite our parent body to Parent
Teacher conferences this week on Wednesday night,
beginning at 6:30pm. Your individualized programs
will be sent home with the boys on Tuesday, so you will
have it by Wednesday.
I would like to call the attention of all of our Parents to
our new Open Gym program. Every Thursday
night, the gym is open to all DRS students for choose-
up hockey, from 7:30pm after Mishmar until 9:55pm.
Every Motzai Shabbos the gym is open for choose-up
basketball, from one hour after shabbos is over. There
is no need to sign up, the boys can just come down
and
play!
Elective sheets for next year have been handed
out to all Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors.
Please get your elective choice sheets immediately to
guarantee a spot in your preferred elective choice
fornext year. Any questions on electives should be
addressed to Mr. Feldman.
The Seniors were presented with a provocative
program to alert them to the problem of spousal abuse
within the orthodox community. The program was
extremely informative and very well received.
Next week, we are expecting a visit from Rabbi
Daniel Mechanic of Project Chazone Discovery
Seminars,
who will speak to the boys about
fundamental issues of faith and belief in Judaism.
Although the sophomores had somewhat of a glum
week between the heartbreaking sports losses and the
postponement of the Sophomore Trip to May 19-20th,
they did get an afternoon off for some bowling as
a consolation prize. Also, we are gearing up for
the great Yeshiva-wide Mission to Washington
right
after Pesach, on April 19-20. The sophomores will
also have Mr. Steven Berger, holocaust survivor
and
noted author, address them this week, in
conjunction with the English classes finishing Elie
Wiesel's novel "Night".
Wishing everyone a wonderful, inspiring, leibedick, and
restful Shabbat......
Sincerely,
Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky
