From the Desk of Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky
Preparation for the Yom Tov of Pesach is on the minds
of all, and at Yeshiva our shiurim are delving into
the timeless messages of the hagada, so our talmidim
are prepared to join the re-creation of the
wondrous night of Yetziat Mitzrayim.
In this endeavor, we are joined by our returning
alumni from Eretz Yisrael, who will help strengthen our
Bait Medrash by filling it with the sounds of Torat Eretz
Yisrael. The community is invited to join us for
any or all of the shiurim, and you can click on the link
below to view our Pre-Pesach line up of shiurim and
lectures.
There is also a link below to access the full list of
extension telephone numbers of our faculty members.
If anyone would like to leave a message for a
faculty member, please dial our Yeshiva number, and
press the extension of the teacher you would like to
speak with, and your message will be promptly returned.
One of the special aspects of Simchat Hachag is the
opportunity for our talmidim to enjoy some much-
needed rest from the rigors of Yeshiva. We hope that
everyone enjoys zman chairutainu, and returns to
Yeshiva invigorated for the final stretch of what has
been an outstandingly productive 5764!
Have a wonderful Shabbat, and a Chag Kasher
V'Sameach!
| Special Guests @ DRS! |
 |
The students at DRS were privileged to hear from
two very special guest speakers this week. On
Wednesday, the 11th and 12th grade classes heard
from Rabbi Daniel Mechanic, the Director of Project
Chazone. Rabbi Mechanic is a dynamic educator
who has held various teaching positions in the U.S. and
Israel, including Director of the Discovery Seminars.
For the 3rd year, Rabbi Mechanic presented
components of Aish Hatorah's award-winning
Discovery Seminar, including proofs for the Diving
authorship of the Torah, and Biblical insights into the
roots of Anti-Semitism. The presentation was
particularly useful for the students, as it provided them
with valuable ammunition to counter attacks
against Jews and the State of Israel that they will
encounter once they graduate high school.
On Thursday, the 10th grade students were
treated to a very unique component of their
English Literature curriculum. Under the direction
of English teacher Mrs. Kestin-Fishbane, the
students have just completed a unit on the Holocaust
and literature of the time period, including an in-
depth analysis of Eli Weisel's "Night." To provide
some important context to their studies, the students
heard from Holocaust survivor Stephen Berger.
Mr. Berger, who was born in Hungary, spent the war
years in the ghetto of Debrecen, the Strasshof
concentration camp, and a slave labor camp in Austria.
He told his fascinating story to the students,
and urged them to learn from the tragedies of the
Holocaust, and to actively fight for good over evil.
The students had prepared questions in class to
ask Mr. Berger, and his answers were very
informative, giving the sophomores a new perspective
on this troubling time.
Click HERE for a list of the questions the 10th grade students asked Mr. Berger during his presentation!

| OLE' OLE' OLE' DRS!!! |

Just as the basketball and hockey seasons have to
come to a close, the DRS Greenhouse is once
again alive with excitement about the new
indoor soccer season. Made up of a strong core of
returning veterans, along with several promising new
faces, this squad promises to be one of the best in
DRS history.
Coaches Rabbi Brazil and Larry Gross expect
big things from this team, which is still flying high after
last year's surprising playoff berth. In opening night
festivities at the Greenhouse, DRS defeated HANC
soundly, by a score of 7-2, with Sharbat and
Geller each scoring twice. The next game is this
Tuesday, at 7:30 PM at the DRS Greenhouse, and
we encourage all fans to come and watch some
exciting soccer!

| Academic Squads Excel! |
 |
From a struggling team only one year ago to trophy
winners today, the DRS Varsity College Bowl team
won third place among Yeshivot in the Tri-State
region after a tough season of competition. Led to
victory by such luminaries as Noach Lerman,
Jonathan Hefter, and Josh Rosenfeld, the ten
varsity players excelled.
Special congratulations to all the Juniors on
the varsity team, including Eli Brecher and Yair
Frankel, who will lead next year's Varsity Team.
Our JV team looks forward to even more victories next
year!
Congratulations to the DRS contingent of over two-
dozen students who performed so well at this year's
Yeshiva League Model Congress held at the Young
Israel of Woodmere. Among those bills proposed by
our students was legislation regarding the
distribution and availability of Marijuana to those with
cancer and other debilitating diseases, legislation
regarding education system improvements, and bills
dealing with fire protection and prevention.
Gavel winners were Ariel Jacobs and David Lasher.
In addition, the team won several honorable
mention awards. Overall, an impressive
performance by DRS!

| Alumni Return to DRS! |
 |
As many of the over 70 DRS graduates currently
studying in Israel return home for Pesach, DRS is
proud to offer, for the 2nd straight year, it's highly
acclaimed "Yeshivat Lev Banim" Pre-Pesach learning
program. Taking place this coming Monday
through Thursday, this program allows alumni and
any other students in the community access to the
Yeshiva's Bait Medrash, and to a host of learning
options.
DRS Rabbeim will be giving shiurim to their former
talmidim, and will be providing lists of sources to
be studied before the shiur during daily morning
and afternoon seder. Close relationships between
students and Rabbeim will undoubtedly be strengthened
next week, as they learn side by side in the Bait
Medrash.
In another exciting highlight of the program, former DRS
Rebbe and Student Activities Director Rabbi Moshe
Benovitz will be giving a shiur at Wednesday night at
9:00 PM. Finally, all alumni should be sure to
attend the exciting Alumni vs. Varsity basketball
and hockey games, scheduled for after Ma'ariv on
Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

DRS Students Receive Academic Scholarship! |
 |
|
DRS Seniors Noach Lerman and Daniel Loewenstein
and DRS Alumni Zev Lerner
and Benji Samuels have been granted the
prestigious Samuel H. and Rachel Golding
Scholarships to Yeshiva University.
The gift, which is a full tuition
scholarship to YU, is based on attainment of an
exceptionally high academic average
and outstanding achievement on standardized test
scores. Noach and Daniel
plan to study in Israel next year prior to attending
Yeshiva University, while
Benjy is at Yeshivat Sha'alvim and Zev is at
Yeshivat Sha'arei Mevaseret Yerushalaim.
Mazal Tov to each of you!
Sophomore Tisch!
On Friday night of Shabbat Parshat Ki Tissa, over
twenty sophomores joined together at the home of
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Kaminetsky for a spirited tisch.
Aside from the ruach, the singing, the divrei
torah, and the Rebbetzin's famous cholent, the best
part of the evening was just a chance for the
grade to "hang out" with the Menahel, away from the
rigors and pressures and rules of Yeshiva. A real
enjoyable time was had by all.
R'Stern and Talmidim at MSG!
Taking a well-earned break from the rigors of
Yeshiva,
Rabbi Stern led a field trip of his Talmidim to
Madison Square Garden, for an exciting Knicks
game! The Knicks won, and everyone had a great
time!
Chesed in the Snow!
Last week winter had its last hurrah, as one final
snowstorm descended on the Tri-State area.
Rabbi Emerson's 9th grade shiur, seeing some of
the local neighbors of the school struggling to
clean off their driveways and cars, sprung into
action!
During the shiur break, they brought out
shovels and brushes, and embarked on a chesed
field trip across the street. The neighbors were
very appreciative, and the students felt great about
helping others!
Ice Cream Party!!
Way back on Chanukah, at the famous DRS Goods
and Services Auction, DRS ninth grader and
techno-wiz Jason Hagler successfully bid on
an ice cream party, graciously offered by
Dr. Slomovic. Last week, he cashed in, as he and
his fellow students from Rabbi Brazil's Chumash
class enjoyed making their own Sundays!
