From the Desk of Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky
When Yakov blesses his children for the last time in
this week's sedra, he identifies the various talents,
abilities character traits and even some of the flaws
of each of his children. The lesson for us as a
Yeshiva is to try and find the unique talent of each
boy, and to not force a boy into a particular mold
that he is not suited for. Within the parameters
of service of Hashem, there are so many paths to do
it well.
When I enter into our Bait Medrash at night,
especially on a Tuesday or Thursday night, the sight
of 100 young men sitting and learning b'chavruta
week in and week out is simply an amazing sight to
behold. That boys so young are willing to make
a voluntary commitment to learn late at night is one
way that our yeshiva is promoting the special
torah growth of each boy.
This week we also hosted an impromptu shiur
from the Gaon and Tzaddik Harav Aharon
Lichtenstein, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Har Etzion.
Rav Lichtenstein gave a shiur to our highest
honors Gemara students, and afterward our Rabbeim
had a private audience with Rav Aharon to ask him
questions about dealing the vicissitudes of life and
chinuch.
In this context, I would also like to wish a special
Mazal tov to Josh Blachman and Elihu Herscovics
on their acceptance to The Cooper Union, to Michael
Friedman on his acceptance to the University of
Pennsylvania, and to Josh Nissel on his acceptance
to NYU Stern School of Business. Our Yeshiva is
so proud of the accomplishments of our General
Studies department, and the fact that these boys
were accepted to such prestigious schools is a
testament to their hard work and perseverance,
and to the rigorous academic atmosphere promoted
in our Yeshiva.
Lastly, thanks to the efforts of Rabbi Emerson,
every single back issue of the DRS Address is
now available at a website, DRSaddress.com.
Simply go to that address, to enjoy all the
information about every single activity that has
transpired at our Yeshiva for the past two years.
When we bless our children this Friday night, that
they be like Efraim and Menashe, as Yakov does in
the parsha, and like Sara Rivka Rachel and Leah,
let us pray that Hashem gives us the wisdom to
develop the unique talents of each of our children in
the service of Hashem.
Let me wish you a wonderful, joyous, and
inspiring
Shabbat......
Kol Tuv,
Yisroel Kaminetsky

| A Special Visit from Harav Lichtenstein |
 |
This past Monday the Seniors had a special zchus to
hear from
a gadol b'torah, Harav Aharon Lichtenstien .
Rav Lichtenstien, Rosh
Yeshivah of Har Etzion (Yeshivat Gush), where 3 DRS
boys are
currently studying, gave a shiur on the sugya of
reciting
brachot prior to mittzvot. This was a piece which the
boys had
previously studied but were now given an entirely
new insight
through the brilliant analyses of Rav
Lichtenstein.
After speaking to the boys, Rav Lichtenstein
spoke to the
Rebbeim about issues in chinuch. He
answered questions from the
Rebbeim on some of the many complex issues
currently affecting Jewish educators. The
Rebbes were inspired by the Rosh Yeshiva and very
appreciative
that he took time from his busy schedule to share his
words of
wisdom

Torah Bowl Team Plows Ahead |
|
|
|
This past Monday, DRS hosted the second torah
bowl meet of
the season, led by Rabbi Willig and Captain Yosef
Miller. The
DRS team beat Rambam in a very tight match as
well as
HAFTR and NSHA, but was bested by HANC.
Wilbur the Mascot showed up to cheer on
the Torahcats, and his
presence was greatly appreciated. The team
now has a 6-2
record and is in second place in its division.
They hope to do
even better at the next meet in February. Go
Cats!!!
Athletics Update
It was a perfect week for the DRS athletic
program. The
Junior Varsity kicked off the week with a
win over Rambam. The team was in control
all game and won by 15.
Josh Maslowe paced the squad with 19
points for the 4-2
Wildcats. The Varsity had a stellar week, winning
both their
games ot get right back into playoff contention.
They started
motzai shabbat with a convincing 35 point
victory over local
rival Rambam. The stifling defense held Rambam
to under 20
points in the first half. Evan Cohen led the
way with a DRS all-
time record of 39 points. Then on Tuesday night the
team
continued its winning ways with a victory over
division rival
North Shore. Elie Pollak and Shimmy Pianko iced
the victory
with clutch free throw shooting in a hard fought tight
game.
The hockey team upped its record to 6-1 with a
7-2 victory
over North Shore. The squad goalie led the way
as Binyamin
Weinstein was superb in net. David Weiss
extended his goal
scoring steak to four games as he paced the way
with two
goals.
